Federal Government Eliminating Paper Checks Sept 30

The U.S Department of the Treasury will not be issuing paper checks after September 30 as announced in a press release on August 14, 2025.

If your organization works with individuals receiving federal benefits such as Social Security, Veteran’s benefits, or their tax refunds please be sure to help them understand their options listed in the press release.

Direct deposit to a checking account is an option and is a safer and faster way to receive federal benefits payments.  Bank On New Mexico has created a flyer (see links below) to share out in community on this change and to provide information on how to find no-overdraft and low or no-cost checking accounts available in New Mexico at over 280 bank and credit union branches. 

Keep in mind to also remind individuals to beware of government impersonation scams and fraud that tend to show up when changes like this occur.
